GPCA  LGD Titles

Qualifications

The Great Pyrenees Club of America has started a program to officially title dogs belonging to the GPCA or GPCA affiliated clubs as Livestock Guardian Dogs if they meet the qualifications. To qualify, a dog or bitch must have worked as a Livestock Guardian for at least three years on property with no less than five acres.  The dog must be registered with AKC, eligible to be registered with AKC, be registered with a foreign club recognized by AKC, or otherwise prove its purity of breeding to the satisfaction of the GPCA Board of Directors.  The dog must have worked as a guardian to at least five large hooved stock animals (like horses or cows), or five camelids (alpacas or llamas), or ten sheep, goats or similar size stock, or twenty birds of any species if that is the dog's primary responsibility.  Certification by OFA or a recognized  equivalent, a picture of the dog with its stock, and a statement of the kind of predators in the area are all required with the application.
