Oklahoma GPCA  Great Pyrenees Rescue Representatives

We are proud to announce that we are now the Oklahoma Representatives for the Great Pyrenees Club of America Rescue.   We're still new at it but learning rapidly.  This page will be used to post dogs that we have rescued and to keep you all up to date on their progress.  Everyone is welcome to browse but if you are not in Oklahoma or a neighboring state that does not have an evaluator, please go to your local state rescue for a companion animal or to LGDevaluators@yahoogroups.com and inquire about an evaluator closer to your home..

Adoption fees will vary according to the expenses incurred in their rescue, including vetting, medications, fuel and food.  While adult LGDs without faults, when you can find them for sale, are usually priced in the $1000s , these dogs, with our guarantee on working ability will have adoption fees of $300.  There will be an application, an adoption contract, and a farm visit to the adopting farm.  Adopters would do best by coming here to pick up the dog but in special cases it may be possible to arrange transportation.

Some requirements for adoption:  Fencing that will hold LGDs - Barbed wire is not sufficient.  Animals to be guarded must be on the farm at the time the dog arrives.  Any dog needing rehoming must be returned here.  For companion animals, the fencing and rehoming requirements remain the same.  Detailed requirements are listed in the contracts and the introduction.

We will mentor any adopters who want advice for the life of the dog.

This is OG, a female that does not like to be touched so has to be fed in a stall or corner of the barn where she can be caught and petted as well as checked for well being.  She is doing as well as OB and is ready to go for the right person.

This is OB,  a friendly male doing well learning his job and he is available

This young dog that was a failed companion because he was a puppy and the people didn't realize the energy some puppies have. He came to us March 1, 2009.  He Has come a long way since arriving here. He has matured physically and isdoing well at learning the trade.  He is ready to go to work with an older dog.  We don't think he is ready to be alone yet.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR WORKING DOGS PLEASE DOWNLOAD AN APPLICATION AND EMAIL IT TO US.  YES, WE ARE PARTICULAR AND WILL ASK QUESTIONS BUT, IF YOU WILL WORK WITH US, WE REALLY WANT THESE DOGS TO HAVE A GOOD HOME AND A GOOD JOB. THESE GUYS DON'T GET TO DRAW UNEMPLOYMENT BUT THEY NEED GOOD FENCES AND A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF LGDS.  IF YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT INTRODUCING, DISCIPLINE, OR MUCH ABOUT LGDS, GO BACK TO THE SITE MAP AND FIND THE INFORMATION PAGES, THEN READ THEM.
